Thirty years from now:
It was cold. Bitterly cold. Kerry Shepherdson made her way through the ruble of what used to be Parodopolis. Her short brown hair blew slightly in the wind. She turned forty-six years old today but no one cared. The wrinkles on her face were a testament to the level of stress in her life.
As she passed through the dark section of town she thought she heard someone behind her. With the training she had gotten over the years from the many members of the long gone Lair Legion (How she missed some of them!) she knew she could take her pursuer, even with the power-dampener collar on her neck. Still she decided to fake surprise when the shadowy elderly figure pulled her from the light.
“Shhh, Kerry. It’s me.” Came the gruff, age worn voice.
“Carl! It’s true then. You ARE still alive. How goes the resistance?” she asks.
Carl Bastion dressed in the usual purple and green rags, complete with his gray beard. He had his arrows and bow still but instead of using fancy trick arrows like when he used to call himself Trickshot he now used only real metal tips. He replied, “Well enough. Finny, Harlagaz, Yuki Shiro, Clement and Messenger are still surviving. Never mind us. Hallie had us shielded so far. Here’s the device. According to Cody Harper it should scramble the collars. Can you smuggle it past the Sentinoids?”
The Sentinoids were ten-foot robots built long ago for hunting, capturing or successfully killing any super humans.
“Yeah. There’s some places even a giant robot cant check. Thank you Carl. We’ll meet at the rendezvous site.” Kerry said after giving him a kiss on the cheek.
As she left she said as an after thought, “Carl, Natalia would’ve been proud.”
Carl, trying not to think of his long gone wife Natalia Romanza, just waves her to go.

It’s curfew at the Camps. Those whom haven’t been killed, the former heroes and villains, all lived here. The collars on their necks kept them from using their powers. After the Sentinoids hunted down and killed as many heroes and villains as they could they rest where placed here. Thirty years had passed sense that day when the Sentinoids took over America and all hope had completely fled.

Kerry passed the graves of so many friends; Fashion Accessory, Glory, Zack Zelnitz , Sir Mumphrey Wilton, Falcon, Lisa, NTU-150, the Librarian, Amazing Guy, Nats, Uhunalura, Goldeneyed, the Dark Knight, Hatman, the Physic Samurai, the Sorceress, Lara Night, spiffy, Al B. Harper, so many more. As always the worst grave she saw was that of her sister Sarah. After Dancer died Kerry had lost all hope. All of these died either during the EVENT or trying to escape. She had to look away, her eyes filled with tears.

After a humiliating search by the Sentinoid guard, she had made her way past the great iron gates and into the compound. All of Parodopolis was turned into this concentration camp for mutates and former “specials”. As she rejoined her friends they smiled (as best they could given their current lives). All of them had aged greatly since the old days. Her beloved mentor Visionary stood there with his gray hair and weak body. He was clearly relieved she was all right. Clancy remained defiant in his wheel chair. The former Mister Epitome would never break his stiff expression. Liu Xi remained quiet as she sat on the dirty floor. Finally she saw her husband, Fred Harris. His temples were gray and he had scars on his face but the former Ham-Boy was a stronger, more defiant man because of the ordeal. She fell into his arms and wept.
“It’s ok hon. I’m here.” Fred softly comforted her.
Clancy, their leader, confident and determined as usual, spoke up, “Kerry, did you get it?”
“Yes. I did. Guys, Carl got it to me. The rumors are true! Finny’s team is still alive!”
Joy crept through them briefly. They did not dare allow themselves any excitement. Of course there where two whom the nature of life could not slow down. CrazySurgarFreakMan! and his prodigy, Chaiki Boaz, walked into the light.
“It’s true then? Great! Chaiki, just you wait! Your gonna love Finny and the rest! You’ve never met them but..” CSFM! was cut off by the young girl. “I know, uncle Dream, you’ve told me for years. My parents used to work with him all the time before they were killed.”
Chaiki Boaz was a mutate, born with telepathy. Her father Hatman died trying to set several prisoners free. Her mother died in child birth. Chaiki was named after her mother. All she has ever known is this camp.
Clancy took charge once again, “Alright people, you know what comes next. Chaiki, you and Kerry do phase one. The rest of us will escape, caring Kerry’s limp body out of here to meet up with Finny’s team. We’ll attack the main Sentinoid base and shut them down. LET’S DO IT!”
Faster then they should be able to for their age they moved into positions. Soon Kerry was lying with her head in Chaiki lap. The young telepath, after getting used to her telepathy returning thanks to the collar-jammer device, gently guided Kerry mentally.
“Ok. Calm yourself. Let your mind travel through the years to your younger body. Let go of this time…”
The present day:
A classroom set up at Lair Mansion for Visionary to teach the Juniors, sixteen year old Kerry Shepherdson fell out of her seat and to the floor.
“Hey! Are you alright?” Visionary asked.
Kerry looked up at a face she knew from a different time.
Samantha Bonnington helped her up. “Did you fall asleep again?”
“Sam?” Kerry looked around. She acted much older then she should have behaved. “It worked! Listen! I’m from the future! You’ve got to help me!”
The kids laughed.
“No! It’s true! Please listen!”
The laughter stopped when Glory barked and growled. They turned to listen to the super dog as she used her device to speak to her teammates, “Kerry is telling the truth! I can sense it! We must listen to her!”
Kerry sat down, clearly more exhausted then she should have been for her age, and started to cry. “She did it. Chaiki did it!”
“Chaiki? You mean the Physic Samurai?”
“No, her and Hatman’s daughter. She sent me here mentally to inhabit my younger self’s mind.” She looked at the shocked Visionary. “Is was your idea dad.”
“Dad?”
“That what started to call you after… after my sister Sarah died.”
“She died?” Ham-Boy asked.
“A lot of people died sweetheart.”
Fred’s jaw dropped.
“After a major battle the Lair Legion fought at the nation’s capital went horribly wrong the government was pressed to reactivate the Sentinoids. The problem was those horrible machines followed their programming too close. They thought the only way to stop all super humans was to take over the nation. They closed the borders and turned Parodopolis into a concentration camp.”
“Didn’t anyone fight them? Stop them?”
“Oh they tried. We fought. We… died. It didn’t matter. What day is it?”
“Friday.” Zack replied.
“No! I mean the date!”
“September 30th, 2005.”
“Oh no! The LL’s battle! The one that went wrong in Washington! Where are the LL now?”
Ham-Boy answered, “Oh that’s easy! They just left for Washington DC….oh crap.”

To be continued?

Quick note dept: I originally posted this story on May 17, 2001. It was supposed to start a round robin but it didn’t. Later on I was going to continue it my self, following the classic Claremont/Byrne tradition and showing you a story where the older, depressed, disaster wised Kerry inhabits the body of her younger self and tries to convince the current LL to stop a horrible Anti-mutate apocalyptic world ran by the Sentinoids from happening. Whew!

Brian (L!) wanted to continue this but at the time I had decided I was going to finish it and told him no. Well I’m taking that “no” back. It’s up for grabs. Any takers who want to follow the classic X-Men story or explore their future characters?

I’ve changed it to reflect current continuity.

Well guys?
